Computer games are not only pop culture they are parts of our identity. This book is for all who have spend hours of hours in their youth in front of displays. It’s full of citations and allusions from famous and obscure games and movies of the 80ies and early 90ies. The story is set somewhere in near future when virtual reality and real life become one big game. When big companies control your identity and life. When earth is fucked up. And when there is only one chance to change the future to somthing better.

It’s real fun to read. Steven Spielberg is directing the movie adaption currently which will be published next year wikipedia says.

never read such a detailed nerdy story before. astronaut mark watney is lost on mars and now he has to survive. almost the entire book is written in log entries in offensive language but also with a bunch of technical and nerdy stuff. imagine the process of creating water from a scratch or planting potatoes in a tiny hab on a planet without any track of life or just to set up some communication. once the NASA gets scent of someone is left on mars they concentrate all ressources and energy to save him – this kind of humanity is the real fiction in my guess, some kind of hollywood-esque story telling which is not realistic. but who knows? perhaps in near future we will be more emphatically than today.

Wunderbares Kinderbuch von dem polnischen Autor Jan Brzechwa (1898-1966). Es handelt von einem abgedrehten Professor, der ein Internat für Jungs leitet. Dabei geht es um einiges skuriler als in Hogwarts zu: Träume werden aufgefangen und als Pillen verabreicht, Essen wird mit Glasscherben und Farbstoffen produziert, Märchenfiguren tauchen auf, ein Auge wird per Ballon zum Mond geschickt. Als dann jedoch eine bösartige mechanische Puppe auftaucht, gerät das Leben in der Akademie durcheinander.

Super zum Vorlesen, auch wenn etwas zu viele Pharmazeutika konsumiert werden. Liest sich stellenweise wie Science Fiction und Technologiekritik, bleibt aber ein märchenhaftes Kinderbuch.

boyle hat mal wieder qualität geliefert. es geht um freiheit, wo fängt sie an, wo hört sie auf. eine handvoll figuren hat er erschaffen, die um ihren ganz persönlichen freiheitsbegriff ringen. der ex-soldat, der auch mal töten darf. sein verstörter sohn, der in seiner eigenen welt lebt und eine frau trifft, die sich jenseits des staatlichen freiheitsbegriffs wähnt. eng versponnen und voller details, deprimierend und verstörend.
