Es wird Zeit, mal in die Pötte zu kommen: Raising Rabbits for Profit hieß eine Geschichte in der Zeitschrift Popular Mechanics (August 1938). Und das trifft es auch: Warum sich lange mit dem felligen Problem rumquälen. Eine industrialisierte Hasenzucht lohnt sich in jedem Fall: Mehr Spielgefährten für den eigenen Nachwuchs, jeden Tag lecker Essen (“tender meat comparable to breast of chicken“) und natürlich mehr Haushaltsgeld.
Doch wie das Ganze aufziehen? Der Artikel beschreibt sehr anschaulich die Probleme der Anfänger und gibt Tipps zum korrekten Abschlachten (“In some places slaughter houses that specialize in rabbits call for the live animals when they are ready. In other localities you arrange with a butcher to handle the output of your hutches.”). Also vorher informieren. Und mit ausreichend Hasen-Material anfangen. Ich sag nur expotentielle Reproduktion… Mehr sag ich jetzt nicht.
Fast poetisch schließt der Artikel dann: “Raising them is a pleasant and profitable occupation and success with them takes proper management and attention to details just the same as in any other business. The fundamentals of success are good breeding stock, proper equipment and the right care.”
Dem bleibt nichts hinzuzufügen. Ich schau mir jetzt erstmal ein paar Schlachthöfe an.
